Spring Break: Mineral Wells State Park

Normally, I don't see the point of spring break. I mean, the kids just had a two week break over Christmas so why the need for another week long break? This year, however, spring break couldn't come fast enough. We started to make our plans a bit late so what we originally wanted to do was not possible because we couldn't find a campsite or a yurt to stay in. (Thank you to my cousin, Jennifer, for bringing yurts to our attention.) So we made different plans. On Thursday, we left for Mineral Wells State Park. The scouts and Young Women have gone there before for campouts and rappelling activities but as a family we hadn't been. We went climbing over the rocks and walking on the trails. We took our little dog, Buddy, and he had such a great time. This was one of the many cracks in between rock walls. Some of them were easy to walk through and others were black holes that no one was brave enough to try.
My Star Wars man.
My Stud-Muffin husband.
Beauty queen.
Analee wanted her picture taken on this giraffe-lizard looking tree coming out of a rock.
Jacob had jumped over to these rocks from the shore of the lake and climbed to the top. Kyle took this picture of him but the camera focused on the dead limbs of a bush. I think the focusing looks cool.
I like this focusing too with the bright green of the new leaves surrounded by the dead branches.
This big guy flew out of a crack in the rock just as Kyle jumped over it. It scared Kyle so much that he almost fell off the rock he and Jacob were climing on.
Mineral Wells is a beautiful park. We have learned that if we want our plans to go the way we want them to, then we have to start planning ealier. Lesson learned for next year.
