Pinewood Derby Again

Thursday night was Pinewood Derby night. Everyone is excited for Pinewood Derby night. The boys and families are excited because they finally get to race and the organizers because it is finally almost over. Each boy was photgraphed in front of the Flag while holding their car. This happened on Wednesday night at the same time as weigh-in. In the past, Sam has named his car with a Star Wars theme and this year was just a bit different. He named his car the Zilo Night. Zilo is from the Zilo Beast on the TV series of Star Wars:The Clone Wars. Night comes from the Night Fury on How to Train Your Dragon. He and Kyle spent hours and hours constructing the car and making it as fast as possible. Kyle has been in charge of the Pinewood Derby for the past two years. It is something that he is very excited about and has a kid-like energy and enthusiasim for it. Many dads are the same. Kyle ran the computer program to keep track of the heat winners and the rankings. Ben, sitting next to Kyle, was one of the judges.

Here are only a few of the Cub Scouts and Webelos waiting to race. Like the orange safety net in the background? Just like a real race track. It ran all the way around the spectator seats.

Kyle recruited Analee and Jacob as helpers. Jacob helped to keep track on the computer program and Analee handed the just-raced cars back to their owners in an effort to keep the boys away from the end of the track. They both had a really good time.

Sam's car is in Lane #1 on the far right. He smoked the other two cars.

I just love to see the boys so excited and crowding as close to the track as possible. There is always cord or rope to keep them back.

The Winners!!!! Sam won third place this year. Last year he won first but even if he hadn't won any trophy this year, he still would have had a great time. He was very well behaved the whole night and was just happy to race.

Isn't he sweet? I just love this boy. He now proudly displays his 1st place and 3rd place trophies and cars side by side on his dresser.

It was a great event. So much excitement in the air and good sportsmanship from everyone.
